Great to hear the great Spanish golfer Seve Ballesteros talking about coming back to the sport after a brain tumour threatened his life back in October 2008.
Spanish press had reported back in October that Ballesteros was ‘gravely ill’ in a Madrid hospital where he was diagnosed with the malignant tumour. Surgery followed but failed to remove all of the tumour and as Ballesteros’ health deteriorated I must admit I feared the worse.
Four operations were needed in all but incredibly Ballesteros pulled through and started his rehabilitation programme towards the end of 2008. In June 2009 the former world number one golfer made his first public appearance since the illness, saying it was a miracle to be alive and thanking all those who had saved his life and helped his recovery.
Ballesteros said at the weekend that he was targeting playing in the 2010 British Open at St Andrews;
“I would love to play there again next year for the British public. It’s an objective I would like to turn into reality.”
What a great thought. It would be absolutely brilliant to see Seve back on the links and where better than St Andrews?
