Over three months on from Europe’s Ryder Cup defeat to USA, Sergio Garcia has had his say on why he and his European team-mates ended up on the losing side.
Nick Faldo’s team went down 16 ½ - 11 ½ to Paul Azinger’s Americans in Kentucky and the Spaniard believes the fact that Team Europe were only given a small dressing room played it’s part.
The World No.2 – who failed to win any of his four matches – has revealed that the locker room his team had was ‘really small and uncomfortable’. He went on to say that it only had ‘two showers’. Overall, he believes that the US team ‘played their cards well’.
Not content on laying into the facilities though, Sergio Garcia went on to criticise his captain Nick Faldo by saying that his opening speech ‘went on too long’ and that the team needed more than one vice captain.
Sergio Garcia didn’t even stop there though as he went on to admit that Padraig Harrington was ‘not my best friend’ and that it would be best for them ‘not to be paired together’ in the future.
These are certainly some interesting views from Sergio Garcia. Who knows, maybe the golf odds would have been more likely to favour a European victory if they had more showers?!
As for his comments about Padraig Harrington, I imagine that is just his competitive nature coming through. They are both fighting to become the No.1 ranked golfer during 2009, after all.

I’m not surprised by Mr. Garcia’s comments. This is the man who claimed he just “let it go” as opposed to spitting and normally blames his losses on bad luck such as getting a bad tee time and getting unfavorable weather conditions as opposed to not hitting enough good shots.
What makes his latest comments especially embarrasing is that they come months after the Ryder Cup. This is not emotional stuff in the heat of the moment. His inability to take ownership and responsibility for anything he does is truly amazing. This is the reason that he and I have the same number of major titles.
The next time he tees it up here in the US, we’ll make sure to lay out the red carpet to the toilet for him. We especially will not have a shower anywhere close to a toilet. Our bad.
With his talent, it’s a shame that he hasn’t matured to the point of being a true professional. What a waste.

Where are these player’s management teams when they are really needed?
They are great when negotiating multi million deals on their client’s but when it comes to advising upon how badly ungracious comments like this are going to be interpreted they are nowhere to be seen.
Garcia is rapidly becoming regarded as a whinger.
