Stephen Ames, the winner of the 2007 PGA Tour’s season-ending Disney Classic was first to tee off at the Mercedes-Benz Championship at Kapalua Resort’s Plantation Course in Hawaii. He started the 2008 PGA Tour as confidently as he finished 2007 after his second shot ended up 28 feet from the pin. He then finished the first hole with a birdie putt.
The Mercedes-Benz Championship brings together the winners of last years PGA Tour season, with notable absentees including Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, British Open champion Padraig Harrington and Tiger woods, who wanted to spend more time with his family.
Vijay Singh defends the title he clinched by two shots last year.
