Padraig Harrington is a very down to earth type of guy. I think we all know that by now. If we didn’t, his latest comments regarding his fantastic year as a professional golfer confirmed it. The Irishman says that after winning the British Open and PGA Championship in the last few months, he hasn’t gained any confidence in himself.
These seem rather strange comments to make, but Padraig Harrington insists that when he walks to the first tee he doesn’t feel that he has ‘that presence’ that some golfers would have after such a successful year. It is something he says that he would ‘like to develop’ though because let’s face it – he should be enjoying his time as one of the best golfers in the world.
Padraig Harrington should be going into any golf tournament knowing he can win it, no matter who else is competing. He is, after all, ranked as the fourth best golfer on this planet right now. Why shouldn’t he go out onto the course with that extra confidence that could cut a few shots of his round? Perhaps it doesn’t suit his personality, but he should use his recent success to his advantage – that’s for sure.
Something Padriag Harrington has admitted though is that he has gained a remarkable amount of respect from his peers in recent months. The 37-year-old said that people are admiring what he has achieved and looking to ‘learn from it’. He also believes that he has become a ‘role model’ for other professionals after he has used determination and patience to make him the player he is today.
Padriag Harrington’s next significant task is to compete in the Singapore Open that gets underway on the 13th November. The likes of Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott and Ernie Els may all be taking part in this as well, but with the year Padriag Harrington has had, I think the golf odds will be backing him to be there or thereabouts.

It was all captured in that wonderful moment after the 2007 British Open when Padraig Harrington let out to the press what his little kid would do with the Claret Jug, “My son wants to collect ladybugs and keep them there,” Harrington said.
That little moment signified the humility of the man who had just won the most important tournament in his life and in that moment he was happily willing to let Harrington Jr. collect ladybugs in the Claret Jug.
He is quite the ideal champion. A champion golfer and a modest human being, a terrific ambassador for the game and with that toothy grin of his, he is sure to win over fans. You don’t have to be a loud character or an entertainer on course to bring in the galleries to have a rock star like following; if he continues to add major championships to his kitty he will soon become the cherished golfer for the golfing world and I will not be surprised if he becomes a darling of the public, a bit like Arnie Palmer in the late 50’s and 60’s when he was the real public hero before Nickluas took over that mantle from the ‘King’.

It looks like Padraig Harrington took 2nd place at the Singapore Open.
Thanks,
