Linna Golf in Finland has recently joined the elite golf courses across Europe after ranking in Golf World’s Top 100 Courses in Europe.

The scenic forest course, designed by European Golf Design and opened in 2005, borders a 7km long lake on the historic Vanajan Linna Hotel estate, 100km north of Helsinki.

The golf course, country house hotel and striking clubhouse, has previously been described by Golf Digest Sweden as the, “the most luxurious golf resort in northern Europe.” It is the home course of two-time European Tour winner Mikko Ilonen and was the glamorous venue for the wedding of Ferrari Formula 1 star Kimi Räikkönen.

Linna Golf President, Mika Walkamo, said: “To go straight into Golf World’s Top 100 rankings is a very significant achievement and puts Linna Golf on the international golfing map. Our vision was to create a world-class resort and golf course in Finland and everyone involved in the design, construction and maintenance of the golf course has helped us realise this vision.”

The 6,624m (7,244 yard) layout cuts through majestic birch and pine forest. Its natural beauty and outstanding strategic challenge, featuring memorable holes that ride a rolling landscape peppered with rocky outcrops, has led to Linna Golf being tipped to host a European Tour event in the future.

The course has become a popular alternative golf holiday venue where midnight rounds are possible during June, owing to the long daylight hours. As well as the exquisite Vanajan Linna, the only country house hotel in Finland, there is luxury guest accommodation in the clubhouse, with suites overlooking the course featuring private saunas.
