Nick Watney finished the first round with a 5 under score of 68 to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship, the opening event of the 2008 U.S. PGA Tour season.
Daniel Chopra is in second after finishing with a 69 on the Kapalua Resort’s Plantation Course in Maui, Hawaii.
Angel Cabrera, Aaron Baddeley and Jonathan Byrd are joint third place after rounds of 70.
