When booking your next flight, if you plan on taking your own golf clubs, you should consider undertaking a price comparison on the different airline’s policies for golf equipment carriage before booking.
APH (Airport Parking and Hotels) have researched the excess baggage policies relating to golf equipment of over 20 airlines flying from the UK.
Here are their key findings:
- Some airlines stipulate number of clubs, balls and shoes allowed; others focus on weight restrictions
- Many airlines allow golf clubs to be taken as part of the standard allowance
- Where equipment exceeds the weight allowance some airlines will apply additional excess rates
- Standard allowances range from free to upwards of £50
- Flybe insist on advance booking

Cheers for that, it’s definitely something to consider when taking your clubs away with you. I was stung recently when taking my clubs to Ireland for a weekend and didn’t realise just how much extra they were charging me for them. It seems, after a little research, most do it on weight and as long as you prepare, it’s not too bad.
